Always a lover of nature, Hugo Caddous first imagined himself working with animals. Then in 1998, he did a drawing class at Jussieu University in Paris which was a revelation and he has never looked back. After studying engraving at Ecole Estienne and later at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Caddous worked, amongst other things, as a textile graphic designer, before founding his drawing studio Caddous & Alvarez. For the last two years, he has been developing more personal and pictorial work in parallel, exploring colour and matter. His melancholic landscapes echo his portraits. The landscape as a mirror of the soul “Every landscape is a state of mind”, said philosopher Henri-Frédéric Amiel. And that is a perfect illustration of Caddous’s work.
